Firefighters and a Firetruck!!!

The children were THRILLED that the firetruck came to our place today!! They have been talking about it for 2 weeks and the day finally arrived! Six, yes six, Ames firefighters showed up to give the kids a look at the fire engine, to show them full fire gear, and to talk about fire safety. The firemen were so nice and were great with the kids. Next up will be a trip to tour the fire station (maybe in the fall)!!

Community Worker Weeks

The kids were VERY excited to kick off our two weeks of Community Workers theme with a visit from an Ames police officer!!! With another year of development, the children listened a little bit better and were not as intimidated by the officer! Last year they were pretty shy. This year they told him ALL about their weekends, their pets, and a little of everything else. =) Their favorite activities were getting police badge stickers for their shirts and hats (that we had just made) and seeing the police car. They got to see the lights, hear the sirens, and sit in the backseat!! Thank you Officer Baker!!

Being Green

This week we are talking about recycling!! The children enjoyed making boxes for our recyclable materials! They painted and colored all over them. Then we were able to revisit our garden week theme as we planted seeds in reused milk cartons. They get very excited about helping the environment!!

What nice weather!

Today we did a mixture of fun inside activities (like using the parachute)!! But then we spent as much time as possible soaking up the sun and enjoying the outside! It feels like a summer preview today!!

Sensory Time!

Once in awhile, the 1-year-olds get to do their own craft time! Yesterday they got to experience feeling whipped topping. At first they were reluctant, but it got better as time went by...especially after they learned that it tasted good!!

Then it was on to playdough! At first, again, they were not sure but experimenting with it became fun!

We got to celebrate another 1st birthday a few weeks ago!! It is very exciting to see our babies becoming toddlers!!!

Sorry for the delay!

Hello! Sorry for the lack of entry for last week. We had a short week last week because I was in Montreal for the Society for Research on Child Development conference where I presented research on the relationships between media use, sleep, and child health outcomes (e.g., physical aggression, attention problems, BMI). It was a great trip although it went by quickly! I will hopefully have new photos soon to blog about this week! It is Earth week!
