Five Senses week

The week of Sept. 19th we talked about the Five Senses! It was a great week FULL of activities!

Monday: Seeing
We used different eye equipment (glasses, magnifying glasses, binoculars) to explore our surroundings. The children also made their own pretend binoculars!

Tuesday: Smelling
We made muffins and apple cider to use our sense of smell! They also got to smell six different mystery items and guess what they were. We had relay races with rolling balls along the floor with our noses, and they children got to paid with Strawberry and Orange paint!

Wednesday: Tasting
The children did a mystery taste test and got to taste bitter, sour, salty, and sweet flavors. They did a beanbag toss into a mouth cut out (which they constantly want to play) and learned the song, "I've Got Something In My Pocket". They also got to make their own snack!
 Tastes Good!!

 Tastes Gross!

Thursday: Hearing
We listened to different types of music throughout the day and made our own sounds with musical instruments! They also had a dance party!

Friday: Touching/Feeling
The children enjoyed guessing what they felt in mystery bags and later playing with cooked and uncooked noodles! They got to finger paint with "bumpy" paint and get messy!

All About Me week

The week of Sept 12th (I know....I am behind on posts!) was All About Me week!! The children liked talking about themselves and their families, friends, and favorite things to do! We filled out pages about each child, they made a Helping Hands picture for their parents, and we learned new songs about being special! We are also going to start have a Star of the Week each week! Each child will get a turn to bring pictures and favorite things from home to share with their friends each Monday!

Falcons and Owls and Kids, Oh My!!

Today we were very fortunate to have two ladies from the Wildlife Care Clinic come to visit us and give us a presentation on their feathered friends!! The children loved seeing the adorable, wild creatures! They learned about an American Kestrel and an Eastern Screech Owl! They were both smaller in size and really did well with the kids looking at them!

The kids got to experiment with funny glasses! If we were owls, our eyes would be the size of softballs! To get the idea, the kids got to wear tennis ball glasses!!

The children got to see and compare the talons of a falcon and an owl! A falcon has 4 toes with 1 in the back for picking up prey, and owls have 4 toes with 2 in the back for perching.
